Sep 14 2023 Meeting Update
Gainesville City Commission has voted 6-1 in favor of creating an entertainment district in downtown
The City Commission voted 4-3 to repeal the ordinance allowing open containers.
The open container ban and the proposed district will be voted on again at the Oct. 26 city commission meeting with potential modifications.
The Losers feel this is a step in the right direction. But, let's get the 11:30 cutoff pushed to 2am. Street concerts don't stop at 11:30.

Pre-Sep 13 Info:
The Gainesville City Commission is considering re-implementing a COMPLETE BAN on having and consuming alcohol in all public spaces. This ban could mean an end to the outdoor dining/event space (the “Streetery”) on 1st Avenue. This is a misguided effort by the City Commission to curb gun violence downtown that will only serve to harm Gainesville businesses and could end outdoor shows at the Bull.
What can you do?
- Send your concerns in a polite email to Gainesville City Commission and Mayor Harvey Ward. Their info is on this page. Look below for an example email!
- Tell the city commissioners what the Downtown “Streetery” means to you.
- Be honest! Provide your perspective! As a patron of Downtown, your voice matters.
